Diabetes is a global public health concern with increasing prevalence worldwide. A recent comprehensive systematic review of randomized controlled studies suggests that chromium supplementation could enhance glucose metabolism and aid in the prevention of diabetes mellitus.
Several of the included studies highlight the potential benefits of chromium supplementation, administered in various forms, over periods ranging from two to six months. The results consistently show marked improvements in markers of glycemic control, such as fasting plasma glucose, insulin, HbA1C, and HOMA-IR, particularly with prolonged supplementation. Additionally, chromium has been observed to enhance lipid profiles by increasing high-density lipoprotein levels and reducing triglycerides and total cholesterol.
